Salado
was first incorporated in 1867. The only record of the incorporation
is in George W. Tyler's book "The History of Bell County" on page
286. Application for incorporation was made under the general law
and the county courts in January 1867 and authorized an election
for town officers. On February 23, Judge O. T. Tyler was elected
mayor and a board of aldermen was chosen. These officials appointed
the other officers, among them Colonel Thomas H. Jones as treasurer.
No one knows why or when the village let the incorporation lapse.
